Sig. Tune for Hong Kong Museum of Art: Creative Music Programme

Introduction

The Hong Kong Museum of Art (HKMoA) will reopen in November 2019 after facelift. A cross-disciplinary creative programme entitled “Sig. Tune for HKMoA: Creative Music Programme”, integrating visual arts and music, is taking place as a prelude to the reopening of HKMoA. We are delighted to tell you that F.6C Yeung Sin Tung Jessie was selected for mentorship under the guidance of Chiu Tsang-hei of which her creation will be broadcasted at the HKMoA reopening exhibitions and different media platforms.

When Art Meets Music

This programme not only does help local and overseas people to enjoy the universal language of music and the worlds of contrast represented by the vast collection of the HKMoA, but it also aspires me to explore the essence and inwardness of music in this ginormous world of art, through collections and artefacts which are correlated with Hong Kong, badged as the Pearl of the Orient, the city that we live and treasure.

I am now writing the signature tunes for “Hong Kong Art”, one of the four core collections of the HKMoA, under intensive training guided by Mr Chiu and curators. The most challenging part for me is to make music that could represent the contemporary art of Hong Kong, while easily recognized, by blending sounds with painting brushes and watercolor inks, harmonizing sounds of both east and west, and assimilating electronic sound effect into live music.

The pictures you see were taken in the audition in mid-March where I was playing the cello with electronics sound effect and a Chinese Fan performing the piece “World of Contrast”.

I am thankful to all the teachers and friends who uplift and comfort me in Munsang, the place which has kept most of my childhood memories, especially Mr Leung Yau-cheung, Ms Chu Lok-yin, Dr Henry Shek, Ms Nancy Fung and Mr Cheung Ying-hung and many of the others who have nurtured me throughout the musical journey.

Lastly, remember the “T” and “Connecting the dots” that I have shared in the last hall assembly. I hope they inspires you to realize your dream and live out loud with greatest passion and satisfaction.

HKMoA will reopen in the coming November. Please stay tuned!
