HK 2018 | Sham Shui Po

Writer's picture: CloverlistCloverlist

I have joined another local tour in August 2018 (one year ago) about cultures and urban renewal in one of the oldest district in Hong Kong, Sham Shui Po.

Yen Chow Fabric Market

Yen Chow Fabric Market

Yen Chow Fabric Market (aka. Yen Chow Street Hawker Bazaar 欽州街小販市場) was a temporary covered market for more then 30 years (1978). Known as Pan Jai (棚仔) with 192 tenants , it is a hot spot for selling fabrics and textures. There are no air-conditioners inside.

In 2015, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department planned to close down the market. But it faced strong opposition that the future of the market is still unknown.

The tenants and volunteers initiated to set up a community and the following is their website.

Sham Shui Po Police Station

Sham Shui Po Police is the oldest politics station in Hong Kong. It is a neo-classical grade III historic building, built in 1924 with three storeys

YHA Mei Ho House Youth Hostel

Few photos take. Mei Ho House is a heritage and it was originally the first batch of resettlement blocks in 1954 after the Shek Kip Mei Fire which caused 58,000 people homeless. And it is now revitalised to a youth hostel and community basement.

Address: Block 41, 70 Berwick Street, She Kip Mei Estate, Sham Shui Po, Kowloon

Shek Kip Mei Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC)

JCCAC was originally a factory and now has been revitalised to an artist village and arts centre in Hong kong. My ocarina teacher is also teaching and holding workshops there.

There will be a bazaar hold in every seasons.
