On 4th August, I have joined a historical guided tour to Central.
PMQ, abbreviated from Police Married Quarters, is a revitalized project run by the government. It has now transformed to a creativity centre.
PMQ is a graded III historical building granted by its rich historical values. It was originally the first government primary and secondary school in Hong Kong. in 1894, the school was renamed "Queen's College" and nurturing future leaders like Dr Sun Yat-sen. In 1948, the building was demolished because of poor conditions under Japanese Occupation. In 1951, police married quarter was built on the site and served rank and file officers at the nearby Central Police Station.
In 2000, police married quarters were vacant. In 2009, the government decided to revitalise PMQ. The project was completed in 2014 and operate as a creative hub.
PMQ offers units and "pop-up" stores for business start-ups and artists to exhibit their designs and operate their business.
